Chipotle hasn’t backed out. They’re still coming to Edmonton.
EDMONTON — One of the most viewed posts on one of my other local websites – [Shoutout Edmonton] – is the post stating that a Chipotle is coming to the City of Champions. [Yes, we are still champions in my eyes.]
That post [read it here] was made on March 17th of this year, and is still getting at least 10 views every passing day through Google searches. It was shared over 1,600 times.
Edmontonians, and quite frankly, Albertans alike, want a Chipotle in this province. This has become clear by reading the 160+ comments on the Shoutout Edmonton post mentioned above.
There are currently no Chipotle Mexican Grill locations anywhere in the province of Alberta, nor have there ever been. British Columbia has two locations; one in Burnaby, the other in Vancouver.
Aside from the general manager and apprentice restaurant manager locations found on indeed.ca, Danielle Moore; a spokesperson for Chipotle Mexican Grill, has since [confirmed with Edmonton Examiner] that Chipotle is most definitely on its way. The unfortunate news however, is that it is not scheduled to be opened until sometime in 2017.
Chipotle has recently gone through some backlash for a food safety issue that occurred last year. The company has reported a loss during their quarterly reports released earlier this year. This is the first time they’ve ever reported a loss. As expected, this is effecting their plans, and expansion has slowed. However, Chipotle has still opened up over 50 new locations last year alone, and now has over 2,000 locations globally.
It is not known if Chipotle has yet recruited and trained a general manager and/or apprentice restaurant manager in Vancouver for its upcoming Edmonton location at this time.
