Shaw is Raising Internet, TV & Phone Rates Effective August 1st

Shaw will be raising their rates at the beginning of August 2016.

Bad news for Shaw users across Alberta. Internet, TV and phone rates are rising effective August 1, 2016 and there’s nothing we can do about it.

Shaw

The reason given by Shaw themselves:

Canadians are using the Internet more and viewing more TV shows and movies on more devices than ever before. As a leading communications provider, we are committed to giving our customers more access to the leading content and technology they want—now and into the future.Shaw

They go on to say that these rates should stay relatively steady until the summer of 2017:

We understand that price predictability is important to our customers and are committed to maintaining these regular rates on TV, Internet and Phone plan packages at least until summer 2017.Shaw

It is unclear how much any of their services will be rising at this time, as they have not made this clear in their [bulletin release].

Sounds like they want everyone to start streaming and move to android boxes.

Guess it’s time to cancel and switch to an android box sooner rather then later.

It’s like navigating the Internet in a sense, but with categories. You can access any show, movie, sports and news. As for child friendly, it can be. We have been watching Angry Birds this week- my sons favourite now. I don’t know if there are parental blocks on them, but they may be needed because all adult movies are on it too.

We turned our house phone off and kept reg cable to get grandfathered internet price still…usually these costs don’t go up much tho…and we don’t have all these bs admin distribution ect fees that other companies we have no choice to use are gouging us with:/ either way i cut my cable from 190+/mth to 120

We had a lot of issues with Shaw so we switched to Telus who are good but they are getting a bit expensive these days. Have dropped the Telus land line though which has not at all been a problem.

Richard, now might be the time to look at other options. Boo Shaw.

CRTC dropped the ball more than Shaw. Did ANYONE hear about this:

“Cable and satellite providers must provide skinny basic packages priced at $25 a month to every consumer by March 1, 2016, the CRTC says.”

Bunch of political & business bullshit, as per usual.

Let’s just go outside and enjoy the summer instead ^__^

I loathe Shaw. Got rid of the land line, never used it much, just get a blue tooth phone and it will tie in with your cell phone and you can then use it like a land line in any room. I think Telus is also getting pricy.

No instead they bill you on usage like a cell phone provider. They just get you in a different way.

My shaw bill says it’s going up $1 lol if that’s all it is I’m not too worried. All I have is internet though idk if it would be a more severe increase if we had phone and cable too.

I thought the new CRTC and government ruling was set to help and defray this from happening. In other countries were there is broader competition the prices remain reasonable and far less expensive than what we have going on. Just ridiculous.

Cancelled my shaw cable this morning. I kept landline and Internet though. I’d rather Netflix. No commercials yet….
